The Cal Poly Music Department will present its 2026 Bach Week from Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 22-24, with presentations and performances on campus and at the First Presbyterian Church in San Luis Obispo.
The first three events will take place on Jan. 22 in Room 218 of the Davidson Music Center (No. 45):
• 11:10 a.m. Instrumental Master Class and Continuo Workshop: guest artists Leif Woodward, cello, and Anna Washburn, violin, will coach Cal Poly students in instrumental repertoire from the Baroque era, with a focus on historically informed performance. At noon, Woodward will coach students in effective continuo playing, which is the foundation of all Baroque music.
• 3:10 p.m. Vocal Master Class: guest artist and soprano Rebecca Myers will coach several Cal Poly voice students in repertoire from the Baroque era.
• 7:30 p.m. Akademie Lecture-Demonstration, “Opera's Virtuous Cousin: The Rise of the Oratorio”: Music Department Professor Alyson McLamore will examine how Baroque composers seized features from the then-new, wildly popular genre of opera and repurposed them as a way to tell sacred stories.
