September marks three years since abortion was banned in West Virginia. Since then, nearly half a million Mountaineers have had to cross state lines to access essential healthcare.
And the attacks on our healthcare keep coming: just last month, President Trump signed his cruel budget reconciliation bill into law, putting seven hospitals across our state at risk of closing and kicking over 90,000 West Virginians off Medicaid.
These attacks make it all the more important to support independent clinics like the Women’s Health Center of West Virginia (WHC WV), which is why we’re delighted to announce we’re hosting the WV premiere of No One Asked You, a documentary created by Abortion Access Front (AAF).
This hilarious and heartwarming road film (which spans several years before and after the fall of Roe) features comedian Lizz Winstead and her merry band of activists and comics as they crisscross the U.S. to support abortion clinic staff, activate communities, expose wrongdoer politicians, and battle media neglect as the race to the bottom ensues.
While this is a free event, it’s also a fundraiser. Given the urgent need, we’ve set an ambitious goal for this community fundraiser of raising $50,000 to help keep WHC WV open.
This event is a bold call to action for our community, reminding us that we can fight back, and joy will prevail. We will shine a spotlight on the urgent need for reproductive healthcare in West Virginia and honor the front-line heroes of WHC WV.
