Are you curious about knitting but don’t know where to start? Or do you have a collection of unfinished projects patiently waiting for your return? Join us this January to explore foundational knitting techniques, celebrate the experience of knitting in community, and create an accessory that is both beautiful and functional. In this project-based class, you will learn the basics of knitting (casting on, knit stitch, shaping using increasing and decreasing, binding off) and employ them to create a pair of garter-stitch mittens. These are knit flat and seamed using a single crochet stitch. This workshop aims to make knitting approachable for beginners, but any knitter interested in practicing basic techniques is also welcome!
Note: You may not finish this project within one session, but I am happy to offer additional guidance at WIP Wednesdays at The Gallery.
About the Presenter: Jackie Kelly
I took my first knitting class in a Brooklyn knit shop when my daughter was born, to carve out a few hours a week of “me” time. What I found were like-minded, fast friends in a colorfully tactile inviting space, and a hobby for life! I knit projects that I want, when I want, for the people I want.
How often do you have that much control in life? Projects over the years have ranged from the typical; scarves, gloves, sweaters, and shawls, to the atypical; stuffed pink flamingos, fruit purses, sock monkeys and even a knitted version of my husband. A process knitter at heart, knitting keeps me calm, grounded, and creative.
