Twintig dagen en twintig nachten zijn thans vergaan sinds een dappere schare avonturiers aanmeerde aan de roemrijke haven van Alma. Daar weergalmde hun gejubel over de kaden, en met verheven stemmen riepen zij: “Hoezee!”, want het mythische Amulet der Oneindige Gelukzaligheid was eindelijk in hun handen gevallen.
Doch, in plaats van dit zegenbrengende kleinood met het volk te delen, werd het in al zijn glans opgesloten binnen de koude kluis van graaf Ensteen, een man meer vertrouwd met goud dan met genade. Sedert dien dag, zo fluisteren de lieden, heeft het lot zich tegen de stad gekeerd. Wat eertijds voorspoed was, is nu een aaneenschakeling van misstappen en rampspoed. Het leven zelve lijkt verworden tot een dobbelspel, waarin iedere zijde slechts één enkel vlagje weerspiegeld: de gevreesde Natural One.
En zie, nu het uur van Hallow’s Eve nadert en de eerste schaduwen reeds de stadsmuren beklimmen, trekt een dreigend onweer samen boven Alma’s torens. Het is duidelijk geworden: deze vloek moet gebroken worden, vóór het duister zijn hoogtepunt bereikt, of anders zal het ongeluk eeuwig in de kelken der stervelingen rusten.

Twenty days and twenty nights have now passed since a brave band of adventurers made port at the famed harbor of Alma. Their jubilant cries echoed along the quays, and with exalted voices they shouted, “Huzzah!”, for the mythical Amulet of Infinite Bliss had at last fallen into their hands.
Yet, instead of sharing this blessing with the people, the amulet in all its splendor was locked away within the cold vaults of Count Shockula, a man more familiar with gold than with grace. Since that day, the townsfolk whisper, fate itself has turned against the city. What was once prosperity has become a chain of blunders and misfortune. Life itself seems to have become a game of dice, where every face bears but a single mark: the dreaded Natural One.
And lo, as the hour of Hallow’s Eve draws near and the first shadows already climb the city walls, a menacing storm gathers above Alma’s towers. It has become clear: this curse must be broken before darkness reaches its zenith, or else misfortune shall dwell forever in the chalices of mortals.

WHAT IS A CANTUS?
A cantus is a western European student tradition where people get together to sing songs and drink something while being led by a 'senior', who will bring a bit of structure to the evening. He'll do this by telling stories, announcing what songs to sing and being a bit stupid in a lot of different ways. But don't worry, everyone else also gets plenty of chances to participate and nothing (except for being respectful) is obligatory. It is part of D&D Leuvens mission to provide welcoming student activities for all and that includes this cantus. It will be mainly in English, but some things being said might be in Dutch, but that should pose no real obstacle. It is highly recommended to obtain a 'Leuvens Liedboek' to be able to fully enjoy this cantus, if you do not posses this, please indicate so in this form so we can acquire one for you beforehand.
