Join us for an engaging day of professional learning, collaboration, and inspiration as we explore the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in school libraries. This Term 4 conference offers teacher librarians, SASS staff, and educators an opportunity to delve into current and future challenges, discover practical tools, and share ideas that will shape the library of tomorrow.
Info: As Generative AI (GAI) rapidly transforms education and society, the need for strong information, digital, and critical literacy has never been more urgent. These skills are now essential for navigating daily life, making informed decisions, and contributing to a democratic society. For school library professionals, this is a pivotal moment to lead. This keynote explores how libraries can respond to the challenges of GAI and the evolving nature of information literacy. Attendees will gain insight into data bias, the role of algorithms, and strategies to empower students to think critically about AI-generated content. Practical ideas will be shared for integrating GAI into teaching while fostering ethical and reflective engagement. This session will energise participants to ensure their libraries remain vital, future-focused learning hubs—helping students thrive in an information-rich, AI-influenced world.

Info: Will Kostakis is one of Australia’s most renowned authors for kids and young adults. First published at nineteen, he is best known for writing whip-smart comedies that break (then mend) hearts. We Could Be Something is his latest novel. It’s a moving family epic that won the 2024 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Young Adult Literature, and was shortlisted for the Victorian and New South Wales Premier’s Literary Awards and the Queensland Literary Award. As a high school student, Will won Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer of the Year for a collection of short stories. People confuse it for the masthead’s far more prestigious Best Young Australian Novelists prize, and Will has stopped correcting them. An advocate for young readers and writers, Will was awarded the 2020 Maurice Saxby Award by the School Library Association of New South Wales for service to children’s and young adult literature.
