KPM soils workshop will cover on the A presentation on the role soil health plays in water quality
A series of practical field tests looking at different measurements of soil health such as compaction, water infiltration, plant root health etc, and a microscopy demonstration looking at the soil food web.
Soil is so much more than just dirt under our feet—it’s a living system that plays a powerful role in both growing healthy food and keeping our water clean. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the deep connection between soil and water, and why looking after one means protecting the other.
Together, we’ll look at how healthy soil acts like a natural filter, helping to clean water as it moves through the land. We’ll explore how it stores water, supports vital microbial life, and prevents pollution from reaching rivers and streams. You'll also learn what makes soil good for growing—how its texture, structure, nutrients, and pH all contribute to strong, healthy plants.
Throughout the session, you’ll discover practical ways to assess and improve your soil, using simple tools and techniques you can apply at home or in your community space. Whether you're growing food, caring for land, or just interested in how ecosystems work, this workshop is designed to be clear, hands-on, and inspiring.
Perfect for gardeners, growers, and anyone curious about how soil and water connect, this session will leave you with a deeper understanding of the ground beneath your feet—and the power it holds to support a healthier world.
A light lunch will be served but bring your favourites.
