Bring out Dad and spend Father's Day at 'Civil War Weekend' learning about the men who answered President Lincoln's call for troops in 1861, those who remained on the home front, and those on the other side! Visit with soldiers and civilian reenactors, watch mounted and dismounted drilling exercises, and learn about the lives of Civil War soldiers. Special presentations are scheduled throughout the weekend, and a dance (open to the public!) will be held on Saturday evening.
Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site, a gateway site for the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, was the 1840s home of Abraham Lincoln’s father and stepmother, Thomas and Sarah Bush Lincoln. It is located eight miles south of Charleston and 14 miles southeast of Mattoon, Illinois.

Information for Reenactors
This living history event will feature an encampment, mounted and dismounted drills both days, special presentations, and civilian opportunities including lawn games, a base ball game with 1860s rules and a dance on Saturday night! No battle reenactment will take place.
We are a living history site open to the public. In order to make a memorable event for patrons and participants alike, we request that participants maintain an authentic atmosphere during visitor hours (10am-8pm Saturday, 10am-4pm Sunday). Civilian camp will be separate from the military encampments. Firewood and potable water will be available for event participants. Indoor restrooms are available during visitor hours, and a portable toilet will be placed in a discrete location near the camping area. Limited non-period camping (family camping) may be available upon request.
This event is free for the visiting public. Reenactors are encouraged to register by May 15, 2026 ($10/participant). Limited on-site registration may available for $15. Liability waivers must be signed for all participants upon check-in at the event. Up to date coggins must be presented for all horses before unloading. We reserve the right to refuse any registration.
