Open Water Diver – Scuba Certification Class
This class is designed for anyone who wants to become a certified scuba diver and safely explore the underwater world. Training is conducted by professional instructors at Southern Maryland Divers, combining academic learning, hands-on skills, and real-world diving experience.
What This Class Is
The Open Water Diver course is your entry point into scuba diving. It teaches the fundamental knowledge and skills required to dive safely and confidently with a buddy. Upon successful completion, you earn an internationally recognized scuba certification that allows you to dive worldwide.
No prior scuba experience is required.
Minimum age - 10 years old
How the Class Works
The Open Water Diver course is completed in structured phases designed to build confidence step by step:
• Knowledge Development – Learn dive theory, equipment basics, safety procedures, and planning. This is completed entirely online through the PADI E-learning platform. Your code will be issued by us once registration is completed.
• Confined Water Training – Practice scuba skills in a controlled environment with an instructor
• Open Water Dives – Apply what you’ve learned in real dive conditions under direct supervision **Additional Fee and weekend required for this step**
Training is instructor-led, paced for learning, and focused on producing capable, comfortable, and confident new divers.
