Cryptid Craze

Wisconsin is home to a fascinating array of cryptids and legendary creatures that have captured imaginations for generations. From the infamous Beast of Bray Road, a werewolf-like creature spotted near Elkhorn, to the horned and dragon-like Hodag of Rhinelander, the state’s folklore is rich with mystery. Other notable cryptids include Pepie, the lake monster of Lake Pepin; Thunderbirds, giant birds from Menominee legend; and the elusive Bigfoot, with sightings reported across rural regions. There’s also the Devil’s Lake Monster, the serpentine Rocky of Rock Lake, and even ghostly chickens in Seymour. With Oconto County’s dense forests and quiet lakes, who knows - maybe one of our participants will uncover a brand-new cryptid hiding right in our backyard!
