About this Event

Welcome to 'Let's Talk History' our series of talks produced in collaboration with Leigh Family History Society. Below you will find the details of our upcoming talks which will be held at Leigh Town Hall. Each event starts at 7:30pm.

Tuesday 17th June - 'Leigh in the 1940s & 1950s' by Michael Caine
Join Michael Caine as he takes us down memory lane to learn about the history of Leigh. From war to austerity, along with a bit of fun on the way, Michael tells us how this period shaped the town and its people.

Tuesday 16th September - 'The man who shod war horses' by Martin Jones
Martin Jones shares with us a history of the First World War as told through documents found in a house clearance. These were later described by a WWI historian and expert on 'Antiques Roadshow' as "absolute gold dust."

Tuesday 21st October - 'Dr John Bodkin Adams: Serial Killer? ' by Kath Graham
Long before Harold Shipman, there was another case of a doctor whose patients kept dying and leaving their GP money and valuables. Join Kath Graham as she sheds more light on this mysterious character who scandalised 1950s Britain.

Tuesday 18th November - 'A Dog, a Duke and a Dowager' by Jim Meehan
Three tales in one with this impressive research by Jim Meehan, which all started with the mission to try save a Victorian dog’s gravestone. Learn more about the connection between this collier's faithful dog, the man who owned the canal, and the lady who owned the collieries.
