What Fiber Is This? Fabric Microscope Identification Workshop

Join us in the John L. Wehle Gallery for a class on fabric identification. This class is ideal for museum professionals, collections managers, fashion historians, collectors, and hobbyists interested in learning to identify fabric and fiber types under a microscope. Participants will be provided with a pocket microscope to take home, along with instruction on how to use it to identify various fibers. During the class, attendees will learn to recognize some of the most common fiber types found in historic fashion and textile collections, including cotton, wool, silk, and linen. Participants will also receive guidance on how to properly handle and store these different fiber types in collections.
