🌊 Solidarity Flotilla for Gaza – Launceston 🌊
📍 King’s Bridge, Launceston
🗓 Saturday 20th September, 12pm
Join us from the bridge as we come together in solidarity with Palestine. Kayakers will form a flotilla along the Kanamaluka (Tamar) River, passing under King’s Bridge and into Cataract Gorge. From the bridge, supporters are invited to gather, cheer and photograph as a show of solidarity with the flotillas currently risking their lives to deliver aid to Gaza.
This action connects our estuary to their river – from the Kanamaluka (Tamar) to the Jordan River – sending a message that people here refuse to look away from genocide. Since October 2023, Israeli forces have killed more than 61,000 Palestinians. Hospitals have been bombed. Starvation is being manufactured through a four-month blockage of aid. International courts and UN experts have ruled: Israel’s occupation is illegal, and states like Australia must act. This action encourages people of all backgrounds and religions to come together, to stand for peace over division.
Australia has clear, practical steps it must take now:
- Impose immediate country-level sanctions and a two-way arms embargo on Israel
- Sever economic and military ties with Israel
Support international legal accountability for Israel, including at the International Criminal Court, and
- Implement domestic legal safeguards, such as the Red Lines Package of legislation, to ensure Australia does not aid or abet war crimes, illegal settlements and crimes against humanity.
While Australia has sanctioned Russia over 1,400 times, it has imposed zero sanctions on Israel. This complicity must end.
Together, we can send a message loud and clear: end Australian complicity, sanction Israel now.
Everyone welcome. Bring friends and banners. If you would like to join as a kayaker, private message GRANNT or Launceston for Palestine Facebook pages.
