Cindy Watkins-5000 Trees Project

Come join us September 18th to hear artist Cindy Watkins discuss the completion of her 5000 Trees Project and earn more about this and the life and communication between trees and other plant life.
Cindy is an award-winning textile artist whose detailed freestyle stitched artwork has been recognised both here in Australia and internationally. Using her sewing machine like a paint brush, she transforms thread and fabric into unique works of art. Deeply inspired by the natural world, many of her artworks contain silk hand-dyed using leaves and bark sourced from Tasmania’s native bushland, adding a connection to the land.
Over the past 7 years she has been working on a project to stitch 5000 Trees. This monumental project was inspired by the book ‘The Hidden Life of Trees’ by Peter Wohlleben, which spoke of how trees communicate and support each other through their root systems. If you’ve seen any of Cindy’s textile artworks you’ll see that interconnectedness of the root systems between her trees (and more recently, her mushrooms, with their mycelium connections).
