Reed Mace ('bulrush') Baskets

Spend a day in the woods weaving a basket from foraged wild reed mace, Typha latifolia (often known as bulrush). These open-weave (‘fitched’) baskets are perfect as a bathroom bin or for storage. Their beautiful texture and subtle colours make them a gorgeous addition to your home. Reed mace is a lovely material to work with, and we’ll gather some of it on the day from the site.

Learn how to harvest, store and process this easily available and useful basketry plant. You’ll be guided through all stages of the making process to give you a good understanding of the various weaving techniques involved.
