This Saturday, October 4, at 11:30 AM, Guardian Angel Cathedral joyfully invites you and your beloved pets to our Blessing of Animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi.
St. Francis, whose feast day we celebrate on October 4, is remembered for his deep love for creation and his recognition of every living thing as a reflection of God’s goodness. The blessing of animals is a treasured tradition rooted in that spirit, reminding us that all creatures are gifts entrusted to our care.
Practical Notes:
The blessing will take place outdoors on the front plaza of the Cathedral.
We kindly ask that you do not bring pets inside the Cathedral building.
All pets must be leashed, caged, or otherwise safely restrained.
Please plan ahead: use the restroom before leaving home or bring someone trusted with you who can hold your pet if you need to step away.
During the ceremony, each animal will be prayed over and sprinkled with holy water as a sign of God’s love and protection. It is a joyful and moving moment that highlights both the beauty of creation and the special place our animals hold in our lives.
Whether you bring a dog, cat, bird, rabbit, or other companion, we welcome you to join us in this annual celebration of God’s creatures. Together, let us honor St. Francis’s legacy, rejoice in the blessings of creation, and give thanks to the Lord for the animals who share our homes and hearts.
We look forward to seeing you and your pets on the plaza this Saturday at 11:30 AM!
