Clark County Parks and Recreation presents the 24th Annual Life in Death Festival, a vibrant two-day celebration honoring el Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Taking place on Saturday and Sunday, November 1–2, at the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center and Park, this FREE, family-friendly event explores Mexican cultural traditions that celebrate life, honor the departed, and confront death with art, humor, and remembrance.
The Life in Death Festival will feature a variety of cultural experiences for all ages.
Outdoors in Winchester Park, families and community groups will display beautifully crafted ofrendas (altars) created in memory of loved ones. These glowing altars, decorated with flowers, food, drinks, photos, and personal mementos, honor the spirits of the departed and celebrate their lives.
Each day will include live performances by traditional Mexican folkloric dance troupes and dramatic readings of calaveras—witty, satirical poems that poke fun at life, death, and public figures in a humorous and reflective way.
Inside the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center Gallery, guests can explore an art exhibit showcasing works inspired by Día de los Muertos themes, honoring the balance between life and death through vibrant visual storytelling and created by artists of all ages and backgrounds, who live in Clark County. Additionally, we will host an touring cultural exchange exhibition, by student artists from Zinacantán, Mexico at our Winchester Wall Gallery.
We will also be highlighting the diverse traditions of mask making and costuming by touring artisans from Mexico, offering a deeper look into the craftsmanship and symbolism behind these powerful art forms. Festivalgoers can also enjoy authentic Mexican food, shop artisan craft booths, and participate in cultural workshops such as sugar skull decorating, mini ofrenda making, clay medallions decorations, and other fun activities.
Each day will also include a free pan de muerto making demonstration, a traditional Day of the Dead bread - made only once a year, will be offered while supplies last.
Come together with the community to experience the art, beauty, and spirit of Día de los Muertos at Winchester—where music, dance, poetry, and memory keep tradition alive.
