About the event

AUDITIONS - Crazy For You
FEBRUARY 8 AT 7pm & FEBRUARY 9 AT 7pm
Director: James Grenelle
Musical Director: Jason Tucker
Choreographer: Amy Fee

ALL ROLES ARE OPEN AND UNPAID.

Characters must present as the gender written per the licensing company. However, actors are not restricted to audition for roles based on gender identity.

BOBBY CHILD:
(Leading Role, Male-presenting, 20-30) A wealthy, charming young man, initially working for his mother’s bank. He dreams of being a Broadway dancer and goes to Nevada to foreclose on a theater. There, he falls in love with Polly Baker. Bobby is energetic, comic, and extremely romantic, a dreamer who wants more out of life than the bank job he’s been saddled with. Strong tap skills required and must be good with physical comedy.
Vocal range: Baritone. A3 - F4

POLLY BAKER:
(Leading Role, Female-presenting, 20-30) A spunky, strong-willed young woman who works at the rundown theater (and post office) in Nevada. The only woman within 50 miles. She is not impressed by Bobby at first, as she believes he’s there to close her theater, but she eventually falls for him. Polly is a determined and independent woman who loves the theater. Tap skills preferred.
Vocal range: Mezzo. G#4/Ab4 - D#5/Eb5

LANK HAWKINS:
(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 30-40) A somewhat antagonistic owner of the Deadrock Saloon: intense, frustrated and manic at times. Provides comedy but is also the main opposer of Bobby and ‘the show’ as he loves Polly himself. The object of Irene’s desires. Non-dancing role.
Vocal range: E3 - G3

IRENE ROTH:
(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 30-40) Bobby’s wealthy fiancée in New York, who is unaware of Bobby’s true feelings for Polly. She is glamorous but somewhat superficial and oblivious to Bobby's growing affection for Polly. Non-tapping role with limited dancing.
Vocal range: Mezzo. G#4/Ab4 - A♯5/B♭5

BELA ZANGLER:
(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 40-60) The Hungarian impresario who runs a theater in New York City. Bela is an eccentric and flamboyant character, often comedic, who serves as the show's comic foil. He has an over-the-top personality and a penchant for dramatic flair. Non-dancing role.
Vocal range: Baritone. C3 - F4

EUGENE FODOR:
(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 40-60) Eccentric English travel writer, full of English idioms and forms a comic chirpy couple with his sister Patricia.
Vocal range: Baritone. D3 - F4

PATRICIA FODOR:
(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 40-60) Eccentric English travel writer, full of English idioms and forms a comic chirpy couple with her brother Eugene.
Vocal range: Soprano. D#4/Eb4 - F5

TESS:
(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 20-30) Follies dance director featured heavily in the ensemble numbers as a key performer/dancer. The object of Bela Zangler’s desires (which she rebuffs), she is confident, assertive and attractive. Can deliver a punch line. Tap skills required.
Vocal range: Mezzo with a strong belt

EVERETT BAKER:
(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 50-60) Polly’s father. Warm, friendly and befuddled; he is gently comic - always reminiscing about how lovely Polly’s mother was when she performed in the Gaiety Theatre. He falls instantly in love with Lottie Child when she arrives in Deadrock.
Vocal range: Baritone. C#3/Db3 - C#4/Db4

LOTTIE CHILD:
(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 50-60) Bobby’s rich, business-orientated and controlling mother who gives him an allowance and wants him to forego his ideas of being in musical theatre and make a career in the bank. Has a dry wit with sarcastic zingers. Non-singing or dancing.

PATSY:
(Featured Role, Female-presenting, 20-30) Dim-witted Follies girl who, at times, is oblivious in hiding the secret of Bobby’s deception. Tap skills required.
Vocal range: Any

MOOSE:
(Featured Role, Male-presenting, 25-40) A member of the Cowboy trio who sings in tight harmony. Moose is the beloved, but dim-witted, denizen of Deadrock. Good comedian and strong singer. Tap skills preferred.
Vocal range: Tenor

MINGO:
(Featured Role, Male-presenting, 25-40) A member of the Cowboy trio who sings in tight harmony. Good comedian and strong singer. Tap skills preferred.
Vocal range: Baritone

SAM:
(Featured Role, Male-presenting, 25-40) A member of the Cowboy trio who sings in tight harmony. Good comedian and strong singer. Tap skills preferred.
Vocal range: Tenor

FOLLIES GIRLS:
(Ensemble Roles, Female-presenting, 18-30) The dancers of the Zangler Follies, each with their own personality, who travel to Deadrock as a favor to Bobby and become enamored with the slow-moving lifestyle. Strong tap skills required.
Vocal range: All

DEADROCK GUYS:
(Ensemble Roles, Male-presenting, 18-45) The inhabitants of Deadrock, Nevada. Slow-moving and lazy with no real ambition or drive, until the Follies girls come into town. All of these men are involved in staged gun fights for the tourists. Tap skills preferred.
Vocal range: All
