NEW BEGINNERS CLASS
A new beginners course will start on Wednesday 3 September 2025. 7 weeks over 9 weeks. There is an initial block of 3 classes, then a two week break with no classes on 24 Sep and 1 Oct , and then a four week block. . Please note no cash payments just on line payment please preferably or payment by card. Please book your place in advance.
Location: NEW VENUE is The Heath Community Hall, Church of the Assumption, The Heath, Portlaoise R32TN88. We have a new venue as our old venue the Macra Hall, (Timahoe Road, Portlaoise R32EY24) is currently out of action due to a major leak. Once the Macra is back to normal, we may return there or to another venue in Portlaoise for the winter.
Directions to location: The hall is 4 minutes drive from junction 16 of the Motorway. Take the “Heath” turn off at J16, pass over cattle grid, then past school on left, and lake on left, and one then comes to the church, the graveyard and the community hall – which is on the left. For those coming from south or west or north of Portlaoise the drive is no longer than to the Macra.
Time: 6 pm – 730 pm. Please come early the first night so that the class can start on time.
Equipment: For hygienic reasons no equipment is shared any more. You need your own non slip yoga mat and a firm blanket. Also “2 foam pads”. Three options: firstly all can be bought from me at wholesale prices but you need to let me know so I bring it (mat 17e, blanket cotton 27 e, foam pad 8 e each); second option if you can borrow from friend already doing, or has done, yoga; third option : there may be some second hand equipment available via Maeve see below. Please don’t waste your money on unsuitable items as it is especially easy to buy (at considerable cost ) the wrong items – especially the “foam pads” – from some shops as these can be labelled “yoga foam pads”. Please note that a mat that is suitable for camping is not necessarily suitable for yoga. The blanket should not be a cuddly spongy item. If you have any doubts I can send you photographs of what correct items look like, or you can email me photos of what you are thinking of bringing.
What do I wear? Loose comfortable clothes that you feel happy in . Ideally shorts for men and tights for women. The feet need to be uncovered for the yoga class.
Any questions? Please just email me
What is Iyengar yoga all about and what can I expect from a beginners class: These questions are answered comprehensively on my facebook page (Iyengar yoga Portlaoise) and my Instagram page (Iyengar.portlaoise) along with photos of the yoga poses and the benefits of yoga, and I do hope you visit the pages.
Those of you who have done my beginners class in the past: you are very welcome to rejoin the beginners class, especially if the time suits you better than the level 2 but some of you could easily join the level 2. Any doubts please email me.
Please do not attend if you have any symptoms whatsoever of any potentially contagious infection (e.g. head cold, cough, temperature, sore throat, diarrhoea or vomiting) this is the simplest way of preventing spread of infection
You will not be penalised financially for missing a class because you were symptomatic. The cost of the class you missed will either be credited to you or refunded as you choose.
Classes can no longer be paid for in cash. Ideally pay on line in advance, or pay by card
