What happens when two artists—one mother, one daughter—paint the same words? Ten themes. Two perspectives. A shared journey in color and meaning. Join us for Viewpoints in Tandem, an exhibit celebrating connection, creativity, and the beauty of seeing through each other’s eyes.
Viewpoints in Tandem opens with a First Friday Reception on October 3 from 5pm until 8pm at Mulberry Art Studios, located in historic downtown Lancaster at 19-21 N Mulberry Street.
This collection is a dialogue—between generations, perspectives, and imaginations. “My daughter and I chose a list of single words as our shared language, each creating our own interpretation on canvas,” explains Jen. “Through color, texture, and form, we explore how the same word can hold entirely different meanings in two hearts. This exhibit is not just about art—it’s about connection, curiosity, and the beauty of seeing the world through each other’s eyes.”
Jen van der Meij is a Lancaster, PA–based fine artist whose creative journey spans a lifetime of self-taught exploration, supported by a degree in Visual Communication and Graphic Design. Her artistic evolution began with hyper-realism and hassince transitioned into a dynamic balance of loose, broad strokes interwoven with moments of precise detail. Working primarily in acrylic and oil for this exhibition, Jen draws inspiration from emotion, using her work as a means of calming and processing deep feelings.
Beyond painting, Jen is a creative director in the advertising industry, a photographer, and a published children’s book illustrator. Guided by the belief that art should be accessible to everyone, she creates works in a variety of sizes and mediums and offers prints to ensure her art reaches a wider audience.
At just twelve years old, Violet van der Meij brings a fresh, imaginative point-of-view to the world of art. From her earliest days scribbling with crayons to building with Legos as a toddler, Violet has always been drawn to creating. Today, her creativity spans painting, drawing, pottery, and even nail art.
Inspired by imagination and memorable scenes in the world around her, Violet’s work reflects a love for capturing moments in visual form. This exhibition marks her first formal art show—an exciting milestone on a path she hopes will lead to a lifelong career in the arts, including owning her own studio one day.
