About the event

Language of the Land: Stories Behind Southwest Louisiana’s Place Names with Dr. Keagan LeJeune
On Tuesday, November 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., join the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana for an evening with folklorist and author Dr. Keagan LeJeune at the Central School Arts & Humanities Center in Lake Charles.

LeJeune will share stories rooted in the landscapes of southwestern Louisiana, from the Cajun Prairie to the chenier plain, showing how place names and local legends keep history alive and connect people to the land. His talk reflects on what these names and stories can teach us about resilience, a sense of belonging and the ties we share with the coast. Copies of his book Finding Myself Lost in Louisiana will be available for purchase, and one lucky attendee will win a copy in a door prize drawing.

Alongside these reflections, CRCL Communications Manager Morgan Randall will speak about coastal restoration projects that are helping to protect and revive the very places these stories spring from. It’s a chance to connect with our shared past, reflect on the challenges we face today and imagine a future where both our communities and coastlines can thrive.

This free public lecture is hosted by the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana with support from the city of Lake Charles and the Arts & Humanities Council of SWLA. Complimentary drinks and light bites will be provided.
