On Sunday, May 18, the open-air Alaloa Lounge at The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua, transforms into an oasis of musical bliss. For three glorious hours, two spectacular artists take the stage and share inspiring melodies with a beautiful Maui sunset as the backdrop.
Hapa-Samoan virtuoso, Honolulu resident and four-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner Taimane brings her spellbinding artistry back to Alaloa Lounge for two sets of music with her trio. National touring duo Desert Hollow kick off the celebration with Americana originals and covers showcasing their soulful guitar, mandolin, fiddle, vocals and harmonies.
As proclaimed by esteemed Maui music journalist and author Jon Woodhouse, “seeing Taimane in concert is an experience.” The ‘ukulele trailblazer summons a full palette of emotions from the four-string island staple with songs ranging from classical to classic rock, flamenco infernos to tribal hymns. In addition, Taimane incorporates elements of dance, theater and cultural storytelling into her live performances keeping audiences' rapt attention and perched on the edge of their seats.
Critics praise Desert Hollow’s debut EP ‘Thirsty’ as “hitting it out of the park,” “full of hooks and marvelous harmonies.” With great talent, immense dedication to their craft and big, genuine hearts, the duo never fails to draw you in and lift you up, as evidenced by their past solo or duo work with Gregory Alan Isakov, Lukas Nelson, John Craigie and upcoming performance at venerable California music festival High Sierra.
