Lagos Dance School is offering quality dance training with the aim of enriching the educational and cultural offerings in the field of contemporary dance for the community of Lagos.
In this laboratory, we propose a soft landing through breathing and the idea of play, activating internal listening, awareness of the present moment, and the pleasure of movement. Together, we will explore the unique dance of each body, navigating between contrasts of tension and fluidity, with the focus remaining on the curiosity of the body’s movement – both individual and collective – to compose, dance, and create in real time.
It is an invitation to arrive in the body and allow intuitive creativity to emerge from within.

Biography:
Susana Vilar is a performer, creator, and trainer in body-based practices within the performing arts, primarily across dance, theatre, and performance. She is currently completing her second year of a Master's in Choreographic Creation and Professional Practices, specializing in Performance, at the Lisbon School of Dance. She combines this with touring performances from the previous year in which she participated as a co-creator and performer:
“RUMOR” by Madalena Victorino;
“Azul ou sobre a força do emaranhado” by Maria Ferreira Silva; and
“Ser Animal Humano” by Sofia Brito.
Born in 1996 in Viana do Castelo, she has lived in Aveiro since 2019, and last year spent a significant amount of time in Lagos while collaborating with AORCA on their creations:
“Ser Animal Humano”;
“Vamos Falar sobre…”;
the European project “CREARE”; and
“Azul ou sobre a força do emaranhado”.
Also in 2024, her piece “Língua”, co-created with Natalia Lis, had its international debut at the Black Box Festival in Bulgaria.
Due to her Master's studies, she has paused her regular teaching commitments and now engages more sporadically with education through contemporary dance workshops and/or movement research labs.
From 2019 to 2023, she highlights her collaborations as an emerging creator in trio, duet, and quartet formats, resulting in the works:
“Casa de Partida” (2023);
“Lá Fora, Cá Dentro” (2022);
“Língua” (2022); and
“Cor de burro quando foge” (2019).
She also emphasizes the projects “provador” (since 2019) and “Laboratório de coisas inúteis” (2023), which materialized into autobiographical performance art pieces.
In addition to consistently teaching in the municipalities of Ílhavo and Aveiro, she has performed as a co-creator dancer in “Aculturação” (2021) and “Manta de Retalhos” (2022) by Claudinei Garcia. Before adapting to online teaching during the pandemic, she completed the Advanced Training in Performance and Choreographic Creation by Companhia Instável in Porto.
In 2018, after completing her Dance Degree at ESD, which included a year abroad through Erasmus at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna, she returned to Lisbon and taught classical ballet. Alongside school productions, she worked professionally with choreographer Madalena Victorino on the shows “Al Teo Bú” (2016) and “Estação Terminal” (2016).
Her earlier training from 2012 to 2015 took place at Ginasiano Escola de Dança in Vila Nova de Gaia – a city she moved to at the age of 16 to deepen her interest in dance. Prior to that, she had studied classical ballet since the age of 4, contemporary dance since 13, and competed for 10 years in Artistic Roller Skating.
Throughout her professional and educational journey, Susana has shown curiosity, a drive to challenge herself, versatility and adaptability, consistency and resilience, and a readiness to work. She is passionate about movement, and intrigued by ideas of plasticity, space, and spatial occupation.
