STEM Saturday: International Observe the Moon Night

Join us for a special extended STEM Saturday on October 4 for International Observe the Moon Night: A day of learning all about the Moon.

At UL Lafayette Science Museum we will have a number of opportunities to participate throughout the day and into the evening:

First up, special guest Dave Hostetter will present a live planetarium program called The Moon Tonight at 2:45 pm in the Planetarium.

Dave will be on hand following the show with a STEM Saturday station and demonstrations and information about the Moon, moon phases and moon observing.

Then from 7:30-9pm, weather permitting, Dave and our planetarium crew will take a telescope out to Parc Sans Souci for lunar observing. We may also be able to catch a glimpse of Saturn through the telescope.

STEM Saturdays offer extra educational activities are included with regular museum admission and are made possible by a grant from Halliburton. #HalliburtonGiving

International Observe the Moon Night is a time to come together with fellow Moon enthusiasts and curious people worldwide. Everyone on Earth is invited to learn about lunar science and exploration and take part in celestial observations. The event occurs annually in September or October, when the Moon is around first quarter ― a great phase for evening observing.
