Creative Experiments for Young Innovators!
Class Experience:
steAm Lab is an interactive, hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math—where the “A” for arts takes center stage!
Each week, young innovators will dive into a new creative experiment, blending artistic expression with scientific thinking. Through playful problem-solving, observation, and experimentation, students develop curiosity, confidence, and a love for both art and science.
While each class stands on its own, we encourage full-semester enrollment for the richest experience. The session ends with a mini showcase where students share their inventive creations with family and friends!
Winter–Spring 2026 Weekly Projects
Week of 2/5: Color Chemistry Lab - Explore chemical reactions through color-changing experiments. Students will mix, observe, and record reactions, then create abstract art inspired by their results.
Week of 2/12: Light & Shadow Explorations - Investigate how light travels and changes. Students will experiment with shadow play, transparency, and layering to create dramatic light-based artwork.
Week of 2/19: Kinetic Collage Creations - Learn how movement works by designing artworks with spinning, sliding, or swinging parts. This project blends simple engineering with expressive mixed media.
Week of 2/26: Texture Science Studio - Explore natural and man-made textures through touch, observation, and pattern-making. Students will create tactile art using found materials, relief techniques, and printmaking.
Week of 3/5: Balance & Structure Challenge - Students will test balance, gravity, and stability by building freestanding structures using unexpected materials—then add artistic flair through color and design.
Week of 3/12: Chain Reactions & Cause-and-Effect Art - Students will explore cause and effect by designing simple chain-reaction systems using ramps, levers, and moving parts. We’ll document motion through drawing and create art inspired by sequences, timing, and movement.
Week of 3/19: Inventor’s Studio & Mini Showcase - Students will design their own STEAM-inspired invention using favorite techniques from the session. Families are invited to the end of class for an optional mini showcase celebrating creativity and experimentation!
Class Highlights:
Process-Based Approach: Creativity and curiosity over perfection
Cross-Disciplinary Learning: Art, science, and engineering in every project
Hands-On Experiments: Each week brings a new creative challenge
