Classic. Classy. Class. Just imagine that the music of the streets, dive bars, dumpy 4 story walk-ups grew up to appear in the course of study of universities. Got Grammy
awards. Filled movie sound tracks. And developed creative innovation admired the
world over. Performed by class acts, like Duke, Count, Ella, even Sinatra. Then on to
Miles, Chick, Keith, Horace. Whew!
Well, wanting to take a small place in that world, we are bringing our own “class act” to
the Muse for you to hear how exciting the classic stuff still is to this very day.
The Ron LeGault quintet, featuring Harry Drabkin and guest artist MaryLynn Gillaspie, is an assemblage of trumpet/sax plus rhythm that today is still considered the “classic”
jazz grouping. Energy, soul, drive, texture, pulse, groove.
Ron’s groups have swung the St Julien for the past 13 years; Harry’s mastery of his sax goes back to his Berklee faculty days; Close your eyes and Derek’s trumpet is Lee
Morgan’s spirit; Drew’s musicianship weaves a texture, not just a beat, and nobody
plays “in the pocket” like Todd. Then, there is the real class: MaryLynn’s unique way of making you feel what each song is really all about.
So, c’mon out and hear for yourself. Get in the groove while we are up there wailin’ away like there is nothing else that matters!
Ron LeGault, piano
Harry Drabkin, sax
Derek Banach, trumpet
Drew Morell, bass
MaryLynn Gillaspie, vocals
Todd Reid, drums
