Creative Adventures for Curious Kids!
Ages 5–9 (flexible suggestion)
Class Experience
Art Explorers is a joyful, hands-on art class designed for early elementary artists. This
process-based program encourages children to explore, experiment, and express themselves through art—without the pressure of perfection.
Each week, young artists will dive into new materials, creative techniques, and inspiring artist studies while building confidence, problem-solving skills, and a love of creative exploration. While each class stands on its own, full-session enrollment is encouraged for the richest experience.
Winter / Early Spring Session: February 8 – March 15
Week of 2/8: Heart & Line Play
Students will explore line, pattern, and movement through playful, abstract heart-inspired artwork. Using oil pastels, paint, and resist techniques, artists will focus on expressive mark-making rather than perfect shapes.
Week of 2/15: Textured Collage Creatures
Inspired by mixed-media artists, students will design imaginative creatures using
paper collage, texture rubbings, and found materials. This project emphasizes layering, texture, and creative storytelling.
Week of 2/22: Clay Faces & Emotion Sculptures
Students will explore emotion, expression, and form by sculpting clay faces that show different feelings—real, imagined, or exaggerated. Using pinching, carving, and texture techniques, young artists will learn how facial features and marks can communicate emotion. This hands-on project encourages self-awareness, creativity, and playful experimentation.
Week of 3/1: Basquiat-Inspired Expression
Students will explore the bold, energetic style of Jean-Michel Basquiat, using symbols, words, expressive faces, and strong lines to create powerful mixed-media artwork. This week emphasizes self-expression, mark-making, and storytelling through symbols.
Week of 3/8: Pattern Play – Inspired by Nature
Using natural imagery like flowers, leaves, insects, and shells, students will explore
repetition, symmetry, and pattern through drawing and painting, connecting art to observation and design.
Week of 3/15: Printmaking Play
To wrap up the session, students will experiment with simple printmaking techniques such as foam plates, found-object printing, or texture prints. This class focuses on
process, experimentation, and the excitement of surprise as artists discover how layers and repetition create unique results.
