Find Your Wild! Volunteer Opportunity: Beach Sweep (registration required)

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service at the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges and the Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges, Inc. (Friends) are co-hosting the Find Your Wild! Beach Sweep Cleanup event. This is conjuncture with Ocean Conservancy's annual fall event, International Coastal Cleanup. We will be getting our boots on the ground, and canoes in the water on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The focus for this Beach Sweep will be cleaning up debris and litter along Lake Road on Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. Lake Road, is one of the most visited public use site on any of the six refuges in Southeast Louisiana. Nearly 100,000 visitors use this area annually for, fishing, launching boats, recreational crabbing, hiking and wildlife observation opportunities. Debris picked up by volunteers will be recorded to catalogue the types and amounts of trash collected.

The Friends, will provide light snacks and water for Beach Sweep participants throughout the clean-up. Space is limited to 30 volunteers and will be filled fist come first served.
