MCASD Members: We are thrilled to welcome you to our next exhibition preview of Alex Katz: Theater and Dance before it opens to the public!

Step behind the curtain and into a world where a decades-long entanglement with movement meets canvas.

Experience the California debut of the Theater and Dance, the first major exhibition exploring Katz’s prolific collaborations with choreographers, dancers, poets and avant-garde performers. Enjoy exclusive access to an evening filled with theatrical sentiment, backstage intimacy, and insight into some of the artist’s most daring ideas.

Widely regarded as one of America’s most iconic painters, this exhibition invites you to take center stage, see never-before-shown sketches, bold set designs, and iconic portraits.

Alex Katz: Theater and Dance is co-organized by the American Federation of Arts and Colby College Museum of Art. This exhibition is curated by Levi Prombaum, former Katz Consulting Curator, Colby College Museum of Art. The 2022 presentation of Alex Katz: Theater and Dance was organized by the Colby Museum with curatorial guidance from Robert Storr.
