The Homeless Project was developed in 2007 as an interactive tool to teach youth about homelessness. Many people have misconceptions and prejudices regarding this marginalized segment of the population. This program was designed to address these issues through active discussions, short lectures, bible studies, service projects, and a unique overnight experience. It is open to all ages able to function independently, and usually hosts from 15-30 youth.
This year's Homeless Project will be held on Oct 3rd-4th. The weekend kicks-off at 6:30pm and will conclude after a meaningful service project and lunch Saturday afternoon. Youth are responsible for bringing a box large enough to provide personal shelter and blankets and/or sleeping bag. We encourage all to dress warmly because the experience is outdoors, barring precipitation. All participants are prohibited from bringing snacks or other creature comforts, and cell phones will be collected and returned after the experience ends.
The Homeless Project is an integral part of the City of Refuge Youth Department. We strive to provide a strong spiritual foundation as well as making them aware of social justice issues and inequities.
Please fill out the attached permission slip (minors only) and medical care permit and return it Friday evening. We are grateful for the opportunity to share this life-changing experience with our youth and community.
