Experience the quiet magic of a summer evening at Seven Islands as fireflies light up the night! This open viewing night offers a self-paced opportunity to observe the wonder of fireflies in their natural habitat. Learn about why fireflies flash, how they communicate, and why Seven Islands is such a special place to view them. Roaming rangers will help guide your experience and answer questions. Educational videos will be playing in the new classroom inside the Bluebird Barn, and before it gets dark, families can enjoy kid-friendly crafts, games, and story time in the gardens.
This program is recommended for all ages. Please check-in at the Bluebird Barn no earlier than 8:00 pm. Sunset will be around 9:00, and the best firefly viewing will not start until it is completely dark. Be prepared to walk up to 1.5 miles on a paved surface, or stop anywhere along the way. For more details, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. This is a self-paced, drop-in style program, NOT a ranger-led hike. Everyone will be required to leave the park by 11:00 PM.
The cost of this program is $15 for adults and $8 for kids ages 6-12. Kids under 6 are free.
Please come prepared with sturdy walking shoes, chairs or blankets, and a flashlight (preferably with a red filter to protect your night vision and the fireflies). you are also welcome to bring snacks (No alcoholic beverages.) Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals. Please avoid using bright flashlights or phone lights in the viewing area, as they can disrupt firefly activity.
