December Full Moon Hike

Experience the magic of the December full moon — traditionally known as the Cold Moon — on a peaceful evening walk through Seven Islands State Birding Park. This guided program invites participants to enjoy the stillness of early winter, learn about seasonal moon lore, and explore how wildlife prepares for the coldest months of the year. Walking under the bright winter moon offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature in a calm, reflective setting.

This program is recommended for adults and families with children ages 8 and up. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 5:00 PM. Be prepared to walk approximately 2 miles over both paved and unpaved surfaces in low-light conditions. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. The program will last approximately 2 hours and will include periodic stops to observe moonlight, listen for nocturnal wildlife, and discuss seasonal ecology.

The cost of this program is $12 per participant.

Please come prepared with sturdy walking shoes, warm clothing, a water bottle, and a flashlight with fresh batteries. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals.
