About the event

Not Quite Roots: Finding My Immigrant Ancestor
If black, it is almost impossible to find one’s immigrant ancestor – the first one to step foot in America. My situation is rare. Both of my mother’s great grandfathers were white and one of them – a Confederate veteran – never disowned his black son allowing me to find my immigrant ancestor who was born in Liverpool, England in 1651 and died in Accomack, VA in 1721.

Brown Bag Lectures are free and open to the public. The lecture will begin at noon at the East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay Street, Knoxville. Guests are invited to bring a “Brown Bag” lunch.
