Welcome the winter holidays by making cards for loved ones through three super fun art mediums!
Each participant will get to make numerous holiday cards, each with a different art style: a cyanotype showcasing various natural materials, a colorful Gelli printed leaf scene, and a custom hand-pressed lino print that each person gets to carve themselves!
All materials for this course are provided by Ijams Nature Center. To learn more about each art style, read below:
Cyanotype: Cyanotypes are a type of photographic process that involves exposing objects in sunlight on paper coated with a light-sensitive solution. The objects leave behind white impressions on their shape and form, while the rest of the print turns a beautiful, deep blue!
Gelli printing: Gelli prints are made by using a gel-like plate coated in specialty ink. Once the plate is covered, participants will add leaves, feathers, and other natural materials to make a colorful art piece directly onto their card!
Lino prints: Lino printing is a relief-based technique where a lino block is carved, coated in block printing ink, and transferred onto paper or fabric by pressing. Each participant will get to carve their own lino block!
Parking: Parking for this Ijams Education Course is free for all participants. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the course begins to obtain a free parking pass upon check-in. If you have been issued a yearly membership or parking pass, you're all set! To learn more about Ijams membership opportunities, visit: ijams.org/membership
