About the event

Auditions: The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Night-Time
The Linkville Players invites you to:
Auditions for “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”
Tuesday July 8th & Wednesday 9th at 6:30pm

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, written by Simon Stephens, adapted from the novel by Mark Haddon, is the initial offering of the Linkville Playhouse season of 2025-26. The play sketches the journey of an extraordinary young person in the quest for meaning and acceptance in a world that is both thrilling and dangerous. The people in this world support and hinder the main character, as he (or she) struggles with autism to reach a goal that many of the characters in the narrative would never believe would be possible. On top of this is a style of theater that is pure theatricality, mixed with times of humor and deep dysfunctional family issues. The result is an audience leaving the theater with a new vision of the humanness of a section of our population that has quite often been misunderstood and handcuffed in their chase of a rich, full life. Winner of the 2013 Tony and Olivier awards for best play.

Auditions are Tuesday July 8th and Wednesday the 9th (callbacks July 9th) at the Linkville Playhouse (201 Main St.) starting at 6:30 pm. Auditions will consist of monologues, prepared or from the script, along with cold readings from the play. Some movement will also be part of the audition, so wear something that you are comfortable moving in.

Rehearsals start Thursday July 10th @ 6:30 pm. Regular rehearsals are Monday-Thursday 6:30 to 9:30, with some weekend commitments as rehearsals get closer to performance dates. Performances are September 12th to the 27th, Friday and Saturday evenings, with one matinee on Sunday September 21st.

Production staff and crew are also needed for the production; please stop by during the auditions or contact the director if interested.

Casting Breakdown:

Christopher Boone (Any gender, 18-25) Christopher Boone is a very talented 15 year old. He knows a lot about space and mathematics - he also finds people confusing and notices the tiniest details about the world around him that most people would ignore. He and his father Ed are very similar in that they are both quite stubborn and determined. The unique behaviours he presents could suggest that he is on the autistic spectrum.

Ed Boone ( Male 35-50) Ed is Christopher's father. Ed and Christopher have a loving but at times tense relationship. Ed has some very good traits, he is very patient and caring with Christopher and, like his son, he shows stubborn determination when the school initially won't allow Christopher to take his Maths A-level. However, on occasions Ed loses his temper with Christopher - in one scene he and Christopher actually have a fight. He has a turbulent relationship with Christoper’s mother Judy, as to how to deal with Christoopher’s behavior.

Judy Boone (Female 35-50) Judy is Christopher's mother. Her relationship with Ed is under enormous strain and she felt that she wasn't as good at coping with Christopher as Ed was. She left the family home in Swindon and went to live in London with Roger Shears with whom she was having an affair. Judy is honest and open about her shortcomings to Christopher and she reveals that she has a fun loving and romantic outlook on life.

Siobahn (Female 25+) Siobhan is Christopher's teacher. Christopher talks to her about his problems and she reads the notebook in which Christopher records his investigation and writes his stories. She is very encouraging and gives him advice about what he should and shouldn't do.She acts as an interesting dramatic device as sometimes she can narrate a scene as she reads from Christopher's book, other times she can appear as a calming voice in Christopher's head to guide him through a difficult situation.

6 Ensemble Members (Mixed genders 18+) Playing various roles

The production is directed by Rich Hoffman, who has directed Uncommon Women and Others, Dead Man’s Cell Phone and last seasons The Thanksgiving Play. at the Linkville Playhouse. He also has directed multiple plays at the Ross Ragland including Matilda, the Musical. He is a retired theater teacher from Klamath Union High School with 20 years of service.
