Feral Science – Where the Wild Meets the Why
Tired of science being just textbooks and worksheets? At Feral Science, we take learning outdoors and make it exciting, practical, and unforgettable.
We have TWO new groups starting soon in Kirkby-in-Ashfield:
Group 1 – Wild Science (Ages 7–13)
A relaxed, fun mix of bushcraft and science. From building tarps and shelters to lighting fires, purifying water, making and testing your own cordage, and exploring primitive hunting technologies like the atlatl and boomerang – every session is packed with hands-on learning and discovery.
Group 2 – GCSE Science in the Wild (Ages 11–16)
For students who want to go deeper or need extra support towards their GCSE exams. We blend forest school skills with GCSE-level science, reinforcing theory with practical experiments and real-world applications. Supports all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, IGCSE) with optional homework available.

Add on sessions to give you a full day's childcare
For Group 1 (7-13) there will be the option of adding on a 'Craft and Board Games' afternoon session from 12 - 3.30 pm. There will be a variety of games available and selected crafts out for the children to use as they wish. There will also be a junk modelling table - as that is always a favourite! We will pick a topic every few weeks and there will be activities available to fit the topic, with the chance to gain a 'pawprint badge' if the children would like to.
For Group 2 (11-16) there will be the option of adding a 'Study Group' session from 9 am - 12.30 pm. This will be for children to study together in a calm, friendly, child-led environment. They can choose their own activities and work on anything they bring with them or with the resources we have available. There will be some science options as follow up to what they have been doing with Rupert in previous weeks. There will be the opportunity to do some group maths work, environmental management work, music theory etc. These are some of the things our current children are interested in -but we will help and encourage the children with whatever they want to work on. The only caveat is that they try to focus and don't deliberately distract one another. We will also cover study skills and time management with those who are interested.
Children attending either of the add on sessions will need to bring a packed lunch which we will eat all together in the church hall 12 - 12.30.
Payment will be upfront the week before the start of each term. We need a minimum of 16 places booked over the two groups for the sessions to go ahead each term.
Also please note Rupert will have his friendly and very well behaved dog, Tarn, with him on some sessions. Tarn is very good with children who are anxious around dogs.

Autumn Term - 7 sessions
26th September, 10th and 24th October, 7th and 21st November, 5th and 19th December
