The Island Walk, a 700 km route that goes around PEI, is creating new opportunities for accommodation operators and revealing a need for additional accommodations throughout PEI.
“With hundreds of visitors coming each year to experience the joy of walking or cycling the Island Walk route,” Island Walk PEI Inc., Board Chair, Don Quarles says, “We’re recognizing there are a number of areas where there are limited accommodations or none at all.”
The Island Walk is a non-profit organization established to develop, manage, and market the Island Walk. With the view to increase the number of bed and breakfast accommodations available along the Island Walk route, it is supporting a How to Open and Operate a Bed & Breakfast on PEI, workshop to assist individuals who might be interested in opening a B&B.
The (free) full day session will include basic information on opening and operating a bed & breakfast with presentations by representatives from Tourism PEI (registration and quality assurance), PEI Mutual Insurance and Holland College Culinary Institute.
All communities along the route could benefit from additional accommodations but in particular areas around Waypoints #1-Dunedin, #3 Borden-Carleton, #5 Wellington, #6 McNeills Mills, #7 Miminegash, #12 Portage, #13 Northam, #25 Howe Bay, #28 Gasperaux, #30 Surrey, and #31 Lake Verde.
The workshop will be held at the Old Schoolhouse, 730 Victoria Road, in Victoria-by-the-Sea, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, from 8:30 am-3:00 pm. Snacks and lunch will be provided. Participation is free but advance registration is requested by Friday, November 21, 2024.
