Are you interested in joining Seadragons at a Wildcare event, to remove invasive oysters and porcelain crabs, to improve the live-bearing sea star, (Parvulastra vivipara)'s chance of survival ? It is a Tasmanian native, endangered, and is one of very few seastars worldwide that brood their eggs then give birth to live young!
This is a non-diving volunteer activity, requiring each person to join Wildcare ($35). It's physical work, the main demands being the need to work at ground level, walking on uneven/unstable surfaces, safe use of hammers and chisels, exposure to the elements, and splash risks. Training & equipment provided.
There are 2 options :
Sun 15 Feb - 12:30-4:30pm
and/or
Fri 27th Feb 11-3pm
The organiser (Garry) is a diver, so we're keen to add on a (boat) dive, on the day before, or after, the Wildcare event. Accommodation can also be provided, for northern travellers, with Seadragon members having priority.
Please message Rosa, or ph 0400 762 988 ASAP , if you have questions, and are considering coming along. Who's keen to car pool ?
Click Going if you are definite, and add a comment telling me your preferred date please.
