Joe and Jerry, two unemployed male musicians, witness a gangland murder. Broke, terrified and desperate to leave Chicago, they disguise themselves as women, “Josephine” and “Daphne”, so they can join an all-girl band headed by train to Miami. They become close friends with Sugar Kane, the band’s vocalist. Joe falls in love with Sugar and tries to woo her by disguising himself as heir to a family fortune, while “Daphne” is persistently pursued by an ageing millionaire. When the gangsters arrive at the hotel and recognise the two witnesses, Joe and Jerry are forced to revert to women’s clothing to avoid capture.
