As we bid a festive farewell to our 2025 events programme on Wednesday December 3rd, we look back on a year in which we have delighted at the new voices sharing our stage and welcomed back good friends for return visits. We applaud each and everyone of our open mic readers and thank you for trusting us to hold your words in our safe, warm and supportive space. May we see and feel more of that warmth in 2026.
This year we celebrated an anniversary and marked the occasion with the production of photo displays sharing some of our favourite memories as WoW collective. We call for fair winds and following seas as we voyage ever on, making more memories and sharing our stage with names and faces old and new. It is thanks to all our guests and audience members that we continue to do what we do and we are grateful for your time, your words and your donations so that we can keep going.
We are also grateful for the ongoing relationship with Hull Library Services and for our home upstairs first floor in the James Reckitt Reading Room for five years, give or take. Thank you to Gav for being our tech extraordinaire and for doing the chairs and setting up the tall person and short person mics so diligently each month, and to the cafe staff serving our coffees and teas we say cheers.
Join us from 2pm in the James Reckitt Reading Room upstairs – lift access available – We run the open mic at our monthly event each slot – strictly five minutes, please time your pieces at home beforehand – the list will open about half past one. This time constraint is vital to encourage different voices and subject matters, thus creating a varied listening experience for the audience. And there will be a break, where we will pass around the hat for donations. The suggested donation is two pounds per person. If you can’t donate we understand, it is not mandatory.
Women of Words is an event series and platform for women writers, set up in 2016 as a response to what was then a male dominated scene. The stage is reserved for women, but men are and have always been, welcome in the audience.
