ABOUT THE AUTHOR/PHOTOGRAPHER ~
Ralph De Palma, author of Soul of Key West Volumes I, II, and III, as well as Soul of Havana, began his career in aviation after a brief tour in the Army. In the 1970s, he worked for Eastern Airlines and later earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Florida International University in Miami. Subsequently, he served as a technical supervisor for the Crew Module at the John F. Kennedy Space Center's Orbiter Processing Facility, contributing to the processing of 17 Space Shuttle missions.
In the late 1990s, De Palma embraced Photoshop to edit images for websites, a skill that naturally evolved into a passion for digital photography and creative image-making. He has since curated a vast collection of over 150,000 images capturing the essence of Key West.
For the past two decades, De Palma has dedicated himself to photographing and documenting the Key West music scene, conducting interviews and writing about 185 local musicians and counting. His work includes studying and comparing Key West to other renowned music destinations.
Although his love for music faced interruptions in his early years due to life’s demands, De Palma has rediscovered his passion. Now a full-time music performance photographer and celebrated author, he continues to explore and celebrate the vibrant spirit of music, with a song firmly rooted in his heart.
