On September 13th 2025, Experience three of Atlantic Canada’s most beloved singer-songwriters sharing the stage at Under the Spire. Catherine MacLellan, JP Cormier and Dave Gunning will present an incredibly triple bill performance in the incredible acoustics of St. Mary’s.
Catherine MacLellan has been captivating audiences around the world with her music for over two decades. Born and raised in the idyllic province of Prince Edward Island, Catherine’s songs reflect her deep connection to the land and the people that call it home. While Catherine’s music is rooted in folk and roots, her sound has evolved to embrace a wider range of influences over the course of her 7 albums. Her passion for songwriting runs in the family; her father, Gene MacLellan, wrote beloved hits like “Snowbird” and “Put Your Hand in the Hand.”
J.P. Cormier is a Canadian bluegrass/folk/Celtic singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He has won thirteen East Coast Music Awards and one Canadian Folk Music Award. He has released 17 albums since 1997, and It inspired, 25 years ago, some of the biggest names in the business today. People like Dave Gunning, Matt Andersen, David Myles, and Joel Plaskett will tell you that recording changed things. People still leave his shows confused, amazed, and wondering what they just saw. Did they see a storyteller? A Songwriter? Arguably one of the best guitar players in the business today? Someone who crosses the lines between different instruments like there are no lines? Of all the things he is, foremost, he is an entertainer.
With fourteen albums to his credit, Dave Gunning is a luminary in Canadian folk music. His journey, deeply inspired by legends like Stan Rogers and Gordon Lightfoot, showcases his talent for blending melodic sincerity with compelling storytelling. Gunning’s music often highlights underdogs and tackles significant social and environmental issues, earning him widespread acclaim. Over his career, Gunning has received ten East Coast Music Awards, two Canadian Folk Music Awards, four Music Nova Scotia Awards, and a Juno Award nomination. His ability to blend humor with poignancy makes his performances unforgettable, creating a warm and intimate atmosphere for his audience. In 2022, Gunning released The Same Storm, an album written and recorded during the pandemic, continuing his tradition of celebrating everyday moments and giving voice to the overlooked. His journey from Pictou County, Nova Scotia, to stages worldwide is a testament to his talent, hard work, and dedication to his craft.
