Kendal Classics: Brahms' Violin Concerto

Royal Northern Sinfonia is directed by Artistic Partner Maria Włoszczowska for this evening’s celebration of Romantic works.

Gorgeous melodies, richly satisfying musical textures, and a solo part that leaves the audience open-mouthed with wonder; Brahms’ Violin Concerto stops you in your tracks – it’s no wonder that it’s been a favourite pretty much since its premiere.

It’s in good company tonight, with the power and passion of Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence, inspired by the composer’s fond memories of time spent in Italy. And Puccini’s I crisantemi (The Chrysanthemums) brings a different kind of intensity - no grand opera here, just raw emotion in a tender elegy that drifts with quiet sorrow.

This concert includes a free pre-concert talk at 6.30pm in the auditorium.
