Invasive Species with Paul Steblein

Exotic plants and animals are having major ecological and economic impacts to our woods, fields, lakes and rivers. What are invasive species, what impacts are they having, what can you do about it? Paul Steblein will answer these questions, highlight some of the important species affecting New Hampshire with emphasis on knotweed, and identify ways that you can help address this growing problem.

Paul Steblein is an Emeritus Scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), where he recently retired as the Wildland Fire Science Coordinator. At USGS, he worked with about 200 scientists to produce essential information, data and tools used by decision makers before, during and after wildland fires. Paul has been on the Governing Board for the Joint Fire Science Program for 10 years and recently served as the Science Advisor to the Congressionally established Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission. Paul began his career as a scientist with the New York State Biological Survey. He has 34 years’ experience addressing complex natural resource and land management issues from a variety of positions (policy, budget, GIS/data, science, and management) in the Department of the Interior, including Deputy Director of the DOI Office of Wildland Fire, and a wide variety of field, regional, and national leadership positions in the National Wildlife Refuge System.
