Hi all, please join us for our September Pendleton Heights Community orchard work day!
September is the ideal time to start preparing and planting for the fall season.
Preparing for Planting:
Site Preparation: Evaluate the planting site. If there is a healthy stand of vegetation, apply a second round of non-selective herbicide.
Planting: Begin planting native perennials and grasses. Water new plantings well to help them get established.
Dividing Perennials: Divide or move perennials to fill in empty spots or expand the garden.
Fruit Trees & Harvest:
Harvesting: Apples like Liberty, Jonafree, and Enterprise are ready for harvest. Harvest Asian pears like Warren, Shinko, and Korean Giant, as well as Jujubes and Pawpaws.
Pest Control: Check for borer damage on stone fruit trees like peaches and cherries, and apply Neem as needed.
Other Maintenance:
Good Housekeeping: Continue to pick up trash, branches, and dead fruit.
