About the event

Pershing Lecture Series: The Surprising Survival of Cavalry
Despite the horrors of trench warfare and the rise of tanks, artillery and machine guns, cavalry units achieved enough tactical and operational success that – even by 1918 – most belligerent nations still considered cavalry an essential component of modern military doctrine.

Exploring the enduring legacy of horse cavalry during and after World War I, historian Lou DiMarco will challenge the common perception that mechanized warfare rendered it instantly obsolete.
