COURSE DESCRIPTION:
There is much to consider about working in private practice. Private practice MTs must possess certain qualities to ensure success. These include being self-driven but flexible, and having the ability to work with others in fluid situations yet continue to be firm in one's commitments to the principles of music therapy. Professional interactions with healthcare and education stakeholders can increase your hours and pay. Mindfulness, thinking on your feet, and music therapy in the moment is paramount to successful sessions. Self-care is necessary to make each session a success and to keep the therapist fresh.
This presentation will include things to consider before securing that first contract or client or improving your burgeoning private practice. Hear from three successful private practice owners on how they got started, how their businesses have evolved and how they continue to succeed. We will end with a panel discussion on nitty-gritty business functions, like billing, marketing, and maintaining equipment.
This 3-hour course may earn music therapy professionals up to 3 CMTE credits towards recertification.
