About the event

Carly Harvey & Nick Schnebelen in the Gospel Lounge
Carly Harvey
Based out of Washington, DC, Carly Harvey combines Blues, Jazz, Soul, and Indigenous American styles to produce a unique sound. She is the originator of the "Native Scat"—an improvisational fusion of a traditional Jazz scat with Native vocables. In addition to performing as a solo act, Carly is an entertaining and dynamic band leader.

According to DC Music Review, "Carly is grace, confidence, originality, and the right amount of sexy swagger all at once. She commands the stage with her voice and presence and draws you in intensely. Then she seems to end each song with an infectious smile of pure gratitude that beams so brightly into the audience.
In July 2018, Carly was featured in Big City Blues Magazine as one of the youngest Blues artists to watch. She is also a three-time DC Blues Society Battle of the Bands Winner and was proclaimed DC's Queen of the Blues in 2016 by Dr. Nick Johnson of WPFW Radio. In 2021, Carly was nominated 7 times and won the WAMMIE award for Best Blues Artist.

Carly is an Eastern Band Tsalagi and Tuscarora descendant and it is her belief that Blues not only comes from the African American experience but is also directly influenced by Indigenous American Minor Pentatonic Melodies and Stomp Dance Songs. She occasionally offers master classes to educate people about the music that gives her so much pride in her Afro-Indigenous heritage.

Nick Schnebelen
Nicholas Robert Schnebelen (born September 30, 1978) is an award-winning American blues-rock musician hailing from Kansas City, Missouri. Known for his fiery guitar work and deep, soulful connection to the blues, Nick has built a reputation as a powerhouse performer, both as a solo artist and as a founding member of the internationally acclaimed band Trampled Under Foot.

Nick’s musical journey began in a household steeped in the blues. His father played in a blues band, and his grandmother was a jazz singer who performed with the legendary Count Basie. Growing up in such a rich musical environment, it was only natural that Nick would develop his own voice in the blues world. He studied classical music and jazz at Kansas City’s Paseo Academy before hitting the road and immersing himself in the life of a working musician.

In 2000, Nick, along with his siblings Danielle and Kris Schnebelen, formed Trampled Under Foot, a band that would go on to make history. The trio won the 2008 International Blues Challenge, with Nick earning the prestigious Albert King Award for Best Guitarist. Their 2013 album Badlands soared to the top of the Billboard Blues Albums Chart, later winning Contemporary Blues Album of the Year at the 2014 Blues Music Awards. The band’s success cemented Nick’s status as a rising force in the blues scene.

After Trampled Under Foot disbanded in 2015, Nick embarked on a solo career, releasing two live albums in 2016: Live at Knuckleheads, Vol. 1 and Live in Kansas City. His first studio album, Crazy All By Myself (2019), produced by Tony Braunagel, showcased his songwriting alongside collaborations with Gary Nicholson, Jeff Paris, and Dave Duncan. Featuring an all-star lineup, including harmonica virtuoso Jason Ricci, guitarist Davy Knowles, and pianist Mike Finnigan, the album debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard Blues Chart and further established Nick as a force to be reckoned with.

Nick’s signature style is a fusion of old-school and contemporary blues, with echoes of legends like Freddie King and Buddy Guy. His electrifying live performances have taken him across North America and Europe, playing major festivals, the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, and opening for icons like George Thorogood. His relentless touring schedule and raw, passionate performances continue to captivate audiences worldwide.

In 2023, Nick released his latest studio album, What Key Is Trouble In?, a hard-hitting blues-rock record that earned him the cover feature of Making a Scene magazine. The album reflects his evolution as an artist, blending blistering guitar work with deeply personal storytelling.

With a career built on authenticity, relentless dedication, and a deep love for the blues, Nick Schnebelen continues to push the genre forward while honoring its rich history. Whether on stage or in the studio, he delivers music that is raw, real, and unmistakably his own.
