The ARTSLAB can’t wait to host this special screening on Saturday 9th August at 6pm: an event for young and old; a film of hope and inspiration; a discussion after the film with the Director; and a special live musical performance by one of the film’s young stars. This will be a great Saturday night for the whole family at Upper River Hall.
‘Future Council’ takes us on an inspiring and surprisingly humorous journey – it’s like ‘School of Rock’ meets ‘An Inconvenient Truth’.
Millions of children around the world are frustrated by the dire lack of action to protect the planet and their future. Until now, their only avenue to express these concerns has been protesting on the streets in the school strikes for climate.
In ‘Future Council’, Director Damon Gameau (2040, That Sugar Film, Regenerating Australia) invites eight children on an epic adventure across Europe in a school bus powered by biofuel. Their mission is to better understand the planet’s predicament, explore solutions and, most importantly, take the conversation from the streets, into the boardrooms of some of the world’s largest polluters and most influential companies. The result is the children forming a ‘Future Council’ to advise and
influence the world's most powerful people on the decisions they make that impact nature.
The ARTSLAB has screened all of Damon’s films over the years and we are delighted to not only show this latest film but for the first time, also have him here in person to introduce the film. Documentary filmmaker Ian Darling will lead a Q&A following the film, with Damon, producer Anna Kaplan and 15 year old cast member Ruby Rodgers (granddaughter of Jimmy Barnes) who will also be performing one of her very own songs on the night, inspired by the film.
Bookings are essential. The hall will be open from 5.30pm, for a 6pm start. There will be free popcorn! Please BYO drinks. The event will finish by 8pm.
