Join NoMi Forest Explorers for the first event in a new hands-on learning series made possible through a MAEOE grant award!
This kickoff workshop launches a season-long project that will continue to grow and expand through March and into spring & summer.
During this initial session, students will learn about native Michigan plants and learn the basics of seed starting, care, and observation. Some of the seeds need to be cold stratified before planting, so we will doing that, and setting up the grow tent.
This will lay the foundation for weeks of continued learning.
WE WILL NOT BE PLANTING AT THE FIRST EVENT! The step we are doing is VERY important to learn though!
This workshop marks the beginning of an ongoing series of check-ins and learning sessions where students will track seedling growth, make observations, and build an understanding of native plants, ecosystems, and stewardship. As the weather warms, the project will culminate in transplanting the seedlings outdoors as part of a community-based native restoration effort.
πΏ This event is the first step in a multi-week grant-funded program that meets MAEOE grant goals by providing meaningful, hands-on environmental education, youth leadership opportunities, and real-world stewardship experiences.
This project is supported by a Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) grant and reflects NoMi Forest Explorersβ commitment to long-term environmental learning and community stewardship. We will be partnering with MGTCC, 4-H, the Kaleva Garden Club to make this project an awesome community collaboration!
