Craft Talk: Dreaming From Beyond the Chrysalis, with Marcel Fable Price
Room 4250 (Student Commons Lounge). Free and open to the public.
They say Kalamazoo is a writer’s town.
Some joke about it. Others nod in agreement.
And if you listen long enough, you’ll hear it whispered like local folklore:
“If you throw a rock in any direction, you’ll hit a writer.”
Honestly?
They might not be wrong.
As a lifelong Michigander and proud returning Kalamazooian, I’ve felt it in my bones. I got my first feature performance in this city. I hosted a show here for nearly a decade. And in my years building nonprofits and raising millions to breathe life into cultural spaces, one thing has remained clear: Kalamazoo isn’t just a town with writers. It is a writer’s city.
We have the talent.
We have the infrastructure.
We have the systems and the soul.
So the question is: how do we build on that?
How do we amplify the writers already here, make it irresistible for others to call this place home, and create a model that doesn’t just survive but thrives long after any one person or program?
Join me for “Dreaming From Beyond the Chrysalis” — a craft talk and community gathering centered on what Kalamazoo already is and the bold, creative future it can become.
Let’s network, share space, and co-dream with the decision makers, storytellers, and champions of culture who make this city move. Come for the inspiration. Stay for the vision. Leave with a new sense of what’s possible.
